Remastersys (used to make the remix)
June 2nd, 2009
If you are like the me before I began this project, you probably think that remastering a Ubuntu .iso to make a custom remix is some big undertaking that requires programming knowledge and a lot of compiling and following complicated instructions.
Not so. Remastersys is an easy way to make a custom Ubuntu live/installer CD .iso. Here are the basic steps:
- Tweak your installation to exactly the way you want it.
- Copy the hidden (Control-H) settings folders in your home directory to the /etc/skel directory and change their ownership to root.
- Go to System > Administration > Software Sources. For third-party sources, add in a new source and paste in
deb http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/repository ubuntu/ - Use Synaptic Package Manager to install the remastersys package.
- Find Remastersys in the System > Administration menu and run it.
That’s it.
